Successful Farmers Will Plant Corn In 2009!
To maximize profits in farming today, growers have to make certain critical decisions. The most critical decision that affects profitability is which crops to plant. It sounds like a simple decision. However, for many farmers, the current market environment has made that decision rather complicated.
The complication comes from emotions created by rising input costs and higher market prices. Those emotions can interfere with a grower's ability to make optimal decisions for the health of the business. In fact, emotions can become so strong that they overtake logic when making that key decision, next year's cropping plan.
For example, farmers can base their decision on the amount of "extra work" it would take to raise a certain crop. Or, they may get so nervous about the price of inputs that they decide to avoid a specific crop, high return or not. However, when an income opportunity for a certain crop far exceeds the logic behind either one of those emotional reasons, it's time to rethink the plan and use financial logic to put the welfare of the business back to the forefront.
Corn is, and will continue to be, one of the best profit options for farmers in the south. There are a number of reasons why this is true. Corn is the single best rotation crop available to growers. Second, the demand for corn will continue to increase dramatically as the population grows whether that use is for human consumption, animal feed, renewable fuels, or other industrial products. Lastly, corn has the greatest potential for dramatically increasing farm profits because of its untapped yield potential. No other crop offers growers as much opportunity to increase yield averages as corn. That is the goal of the AgVenture Maximum Profit System. This program focuses growers on raising their corn yield averages to 300 bushels per acre or more over a 3-5 year period. This will increase farm profits more than any other crop.
According to Chris Kaufman, Director of AgVenture Maximum Profit System, "Farmers in the Mid-south have the greatest opportunity of any growers in our nation right now. They have the soil, the management capability, and the growing season to raise the highest corn yields in the United States and that means the highest per acre profits also."
Kaufman recently spoke to more than 75 Delta growers who were invited to attend the opening session of AgVenture University, Level 1, educational seminar. Kaufman noted that southern farmers are not afraid to take on new challenges. "We can help southern growers grow like they have never grown before," continues Kaufman, "These new, elite corn hybrids have so much profit potential to offer. We have a system designed to release that potential and raise yields to new levels."
As with any business decision, profitability should be the driving force. This may sometimes require investing in more expensive inputs and take in to account potential marketing opportunities. Farming of the past has not always done this but today's savvy farmers understand the business world of today.
